Review: The Unraveling of Raven (The Unraveled Trilogy Book 1) - Theresa Sederholt

Raven lives an ideal life. A gay friend as a room mate, a semi-easy job as a second grade teacher at a private school, and a nearly unlimited budget for shopping and generally having a good time whenever she chooses. Until she runs into Jax on the way out of Starbucks one day.

At first the plot seems all rather convenient. Come on, a teacher who can blow money at Bloomingdale’s whenever she choose? Who does that? However, once you get into the novel a bit, you get led on an adventure full of twists. That good guy? He may not be as good as you thought. And that villain? He’s nothing compared to the next.

One can imagine the author’s storyboard. If one were to drag string between each point, you’d have a rather impressive woven fabric. The author introduces threads little by little, and never really shows you the whole fabric though. Just when you think you’re at the end of the book and everything has been wrapped up into a pretty and neat package, the author rips the package to shreds and shows you how very wrong you are.

What further impresses me is how she handle some rather trigger-worthy subjects. I want to bow at her feet for name dropping various organizations as well as bringing up various subjects that so many other authors shy away from. She treated these trigger topics with dignity and respect while still maintaining the integrity of the story.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery, action, or contemporary romance. Four out of five stars!

Blogger's note:
(trigger warning)
I recommend this to anyone who has been victimized, kidnapped, or raped. The respect that Theresa Sederholt showed the victims contained in the story is amazing and should stand as an example of how to treat a trigger topic within a novel. I also recommend this to anyone who supports veterans. I wanted to cheer when I read bits, simply for the respect she showed our armed men and women.

This is also an interesting way to do a novel with multiple viewpoints. The sectioning was wonderful, and an excellent way to ensure the reader never got lost within the story, in spite of multiple points of views.
